  • Identify the long and short vowel sounds

  • Identify & blend one & two vowel families (ab, et, ipe, oke)
  • Identify frequently used sight words (I, a, is, the)

  • Identify digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh)

At Mountain Heights Preschool, we want to help your child develop a love and excitement for reading! We have a wonderful take-home reading program that will help your child develop confidence and fluency in reading. We focus on developing phonics skills rather than memorizing lists of sight words. Your child will be given the necessary tools to decode one and two vowel words. We will also teach your child to recognize about 25 of the most commonly used sight words.

Math
At Mountain Heights Preschool, we teach math concepts in a fun and interactive way through hands-on use of a variety of colorful and interesting manipulatives. By the end of your child's Pre-K year, they should be able to...

Art
At Mountain Heights Preschool, your child will be given the opportunity to explore their creativity through art everyday! Your child will develop basic drawing skills using simple shapes. Your child will also be able to practice using a variety of art mediums including watercolor paint, tempera paint, glue, ink, crayons, and markers. We will create artwork using a variety of materials, such as stamps, stencils, dried noodles, pipe cleaners, buttons, tissue paper, and more!

Music & Movement
Most of our songs go along with what we're exploring in science and social studies. We also have many fun, upbeat songs that help to reinforce phonics and math concepts. Your child will also learn simple rhymes, poems, and fingerplays. Your child will be given opportunities to act out short stories and dramas as well as explore their creativity with musical instruments,scarves, props, and costumes.

Large & Small Motor Development
We will help your child develop fine (small) motor skills including:
  • Holding a crayon and pencil correctly
  • Cutting with scissors
  • Tracing/writing their own name 
We will help your child will develop gross (large) motor skills including:
